Language Link Vietnam receives Golden Dragon Award

The ninth Golden Dragon Awards will be held this week in Ha Noi to recognise 80 outstanding foreign-invested enterprises in 2009.

"The awards focus on honouring businesses that have attempted to ensure sustainable development and respect environmental protection," said Vietnam Economic Times editor-in-chief Dao Nguyen Cat yesterday.

"The organising board will also present insignias to 10 foreign enterprises with the highest committed capital during the previous year," he said.

Nominees are selected from a wide range of industries.

Bui Quoc Trung, deputy head of the Foreign Investment Agency, highly applauded the great contributions foreign-invested companies have made to the country’s economic development in recent years.

"Viet Nam will continue to improve its legal framework, upgrade infrastructure, improve human resources and investment promotion activities as well as aim to attract US$22-25 billion in foreign investment capital by the year’s end," Trung said.

The agency had sent officials to South Korea, Singapore, France, Saudi Arab and the US to promote Viet Nam’s investment opportunities to potential investors, he noted.

Despite the dire global economic situation, Viet Nam still proved itself as a long-term investment destination for foreign investors, attracting $21.48 billion this year, surpassing the target set by the Government of $20 billion.

Foreign-invested companies earned an estimated $29.9 billion from exports last year, equivalent to 52.7 per cent of the country’s total export revenue over the same period.
